What is the relationship between Remittance Advice Remark Codes and Adjustment Reason Codes?
- Since Remittance Advice Remark Codes provide information about remittance processing or further explain an adjustment, Remittance Advice Remark Codes will rarely be used unless there is an adjustment to report. When requesting a new Remittance Advice Remark Code, always ensure that there is an appropriate Adjustment Reason Code to use with the new Remittance Advice Remark Code. For example, Adjustment Reason Code "148 - Claim/service rejected at this time because information from another provider was not provided or was insufficient/incomplete" may be used to convey the adjustment when using Remittance Advice Remark Code "M29-Missing/incomplete/invalid operative report" to convey that a report from a surgeon was missing.
